FAQ
  • What qualification/licence do I need to charter a yacht with Butch Sailing?

The Ionian is regarded as being one of the safest and most popular sailing areas because of the favourable winds and the multitude of small, secure anchorages and quays.

Even so, safety is the most important and an appropriate level of experience is required. In addition to appropriate levels of experience, the skipper of the yacht must hold a valid practical sailing licence/diploma such as:

    ICC

    ASA 104

No VHF licence is required for Greece at present.

Co-Skipper does not have to hold a formal qualification (but should have experience of course).

A copy of all sailing certificates must be sent to us within 7 days after the booking confirmation. It is also required that skippers take their original certificates with them, as they will be asked to present them with their boat paper to the port authorities on arrival.

Subject to applicable Greek legislation, qualifications are to be approved by the local Port Authority on the day of departure. Responsibility and liability for owning and physically carrying the documents/sailing certificates required by the local authorities rests entirely  with the tenant. Any costs and/or consequences of not being able to submit the required documents on site are fully at the expense of the tenant.

  • For how many days/weeks can I book a yacht?

Our minimum charter lengths are for one week. The majority of our clients book a two week charter, but a three weeks booking is also possible of course, that way you can really explore the islands and relax. However, one week is sufficient to see all of the islands in either the North or South Ionian. It's all up to you, if you need any advice, please contact us!

  • What is the procedure for booking a yacht?

Four easy steps to your chartering your yacht:

    1. Choose a yacht

    2. Send us your request to check availability

    3. Confirm the charter

    4. Sign the Charter Agreement and follow the payment procedure

    Choose a Yacht

Choose the yacht you’d like to charter, all our yachts are well maintained and well equipped. Ofcourse you can also place a request for availability without choosing a yacht upfront. We will provide you with an offer for the yachts that are available in your desired charter period.

    Check Availability

Once you have outlined your type of boat, send us an email with your request or fill in the booking form to check the availability and to get more information. The request should contain the following information: your personal data including your:

    • name

    • address

    • phone number

    • information on which yacht you’d like to charter (in case of preference)

    • number of passengers and cabins

    • charter period

Provide us with as much information as possible, especially if there should be any special interests, whether you want additional equipment on board or if you need a skipper. Remember that bareboat charter requires a valid nautical certificate of competence in navigation. We shall then provide you with all necessary information regarding your charter by return communication.

Our offer includes boat details, prices, and payment conditions. We offer our full support to all our guests, providing suggestions and advice on boat types, periods, itineraries and more.

    Confirm the Charter

When you receive our offer, you will be given a few days to think about the offer. In the meantime, we shall hold the boat for you. Please pay attention to the options; boats can be held for a short period of time, usually up to seven days. In case of last minute booking, this time may be shorter. Once you make the final decision, your next step is to confirm your reservation by email. A short, simple email would be just fine.

Sign the Charter Agreement and make payment When we receive your confirmation, we will send  you the contract and charter conditions by email. Simply return the signed agreement to us by email as well. After receiving that we will send you an invoice, then follow the payment procedure. The first payment of 50% of the Charter fee is to be forwarded immediately after signing the contract, while the second payment of 50%  should be settled at the latest, 30 days prior to your charter. Once we have received the total balance into our account, we shall send you the booking confirmation, approximately two weeks prior to your charter start date.

Feel free to contact us for additional information.
